PADI Instructor Development Course Prerequisites

Below you will find the PADI Instructor Development Course Prerequisites, the are requirements that must be met prior to starting each segment. The requirements to enroll on a PADI Instructor Exam (IE) are greater than those to enroll on the IDC, it is best in most circumstances to focus on meeting the IE requirements prior to starting the IDC, otherwise, there would be a delay between completing the IDC, and starting the IE. If you have any questions on these requirements, please contact us.  Like all PADI programs you must read and complete a medical questionnaire before any inwater training can begin, the IDC and IE also require you to be signed off as medically fit for diving regardless of your answers. PADI Instructor Development Course Prerequisites

  1. Dive Leader certification — PADI Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized recreational diver training organization* who is either
  • an instructor member in good standing, or
  • a diver with proof of certification in diver supervision and management including proof of rescue diving certification; 60 logged dives; documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
  1. 18 years old
  2. Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.
  3. Certified diver for six months.
  4. EFR Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
  5. If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.
  6. Submit documentation of qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level, as necessary.

OWSI Program Prerequisites

  1. Meet all IDC/AI course prerequisites
  2. PADI Assistant Instructor or instructor member in good standing (eligible to renew) with a recognized recreational diver training organization* for at least 6 months.

PADI OWSI and PADI Instructor Crossover  Prerequisites

  1. Successful PADI IDC or OWSI Program completion within 12 months of IE start date.
  2. 100 logged dives
  3. PADI Instructor Certificate of Completion that has both the OWSI/IDC completion date and dive experience sections signed by a PADI Course Director; or a PADI IE Certificate of Participation from a previous IE.
  4. PADI IE Enrollment form and fee.
  5. Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.

Exit Requirement for all  candidates

You must be a certified First Aid and CPR instructor, with an agency recognized by PADI. We offer the Emergency First Response Course to meet this requirement. If you are already certified as a First Aid and CPR instructor please let us know, there will be a price adjustment needed for your IDC package.
